Education through the use of all five senses and sensory play is at the heart of our philosophy in the Senior Room and we work hard to develop a schedule of themed activities to stimulate children's sensory learning.

What is the day to day routine in the Senior Room?

In alignment with Aistear and Siolta, our daily schedule focuses on exploring themes through different activities and sensory experiences. Our room's jungle theme, for example, consisted of reading stories about jungle animals, singing songs, and creating a variety of group and individual activities including painting, art and craft and decorations to transform the room into a jungle-like environment with monkeys swinging from the ceiling, lions watching from the windows and parrots flying overhead. We also explored jungle textures as part of our sensory work including mud baths and birds nests. Click here to read more about this learning story in our blog.

Each Thursday we take the opportunity to bake which is a special treat for all the senses!

Our room also has use of the adjacent community hall which is ideal for encouraging children's development of gross motor skills.

How does the team communicate with parents and guardians?

Our team will always provide feedback at collection time and alert parents and guardians to any concerns or issues. Parents and guardians can now also access up to date information regarding their child's activities and progress with the Child Paths system.

What should I send to the Senior Room with my child?

Two spare changes of clothes, including socks. Extra may be needed if your child is in the process of potty training. Please also send a pair of wellies for your child so they can enjoy the outdoor play area in any weather. Nappies and wipes, nappy cream and any special creams or lotions in the event your child suffers from a skin condition are also required.

How do I apply for a space?

Places in the Senior Room are offered on the basis of half days (morning session 7.30am - 1.30pm OR afternoon session 1.30pm to 6.30pm) or full days (7.30am - 6.30pm) for 52 weeks inclusive of all mid-term breaks and the summer holidays. For full terms and conditions please refer to the Centre’s Parent Handbook.

To apply for a space for your child complete the application form and contact the Centre Manager. Please note once your place at the Centre and commencement date has been confirmed that payment must be arranged in advance from the date of commencement. Unfortunately, due to extensive waiting lists, we are not able to hold your place if you change your mind, without payment to cover the period between your KCCC offered starting date and your actual commencement date. For further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
