Play-based learning through the Aistear curriculum is what drives the Playschool Room as international research has proven the importance of play in children's development. As a result, we have a lot of fun in the Playschool Room!
What is the day to day routine in Playschool?
An integrated curriculum is wonderful vehicle with which to teach children and best of all, it's fun! For example, Playschool children learn about, among many other topics, the sea, and within this theme we can take the opportunity to learn about colours, science, animals, movement, art, boats and more - instead of focusing on just one thing.
While our curriculum is heavily based on play this is offered within a structured routine and environment. As a result, Playschool provides a number of other very important learning opportunities for children as they begin to prepare for formal learning in national school. Our children learn to take, and follow, simple instructions, such as putting on their jackets and hats. Their fine motor and cognitive skills are further developed with the challenge of puzzles, cutting with safety scissors and working on craft projects, while activities such as circle time, singing and even puppet shows foster independence, confidence and speech development.
Outdoor play time and nature themes are also central to our Playschool routine and we are lucky to have an outdoor nature shed with mud kitchen, sand, bark and other natural materials that they children can enjoy on a daily basis. Our room also features sand and water play areas and a very special "Wendy House" that the children love to play in!
How does the team communicate with parents and guardians?
The Playschool Room uses Child Paths to detail our day-to-day room activities and children's development. We also speak with parents at drop-off and collection time to keep abreast of each child's needs.
What should I send to Playschool with my child?
- A change of clothes
- Wellies
- Sun cream and hats
- Hats, scarves and gloves
* Please ensure all belongings have your child's name marked on them.
How do I apply for a space?
Playschool runs one ECCE morning session between 9am and 12noon, Monday to Friday during school terms. There is the option for your child to enrol in a half day (morning session 7.30am - 1.30pm OR afternoon session 1.30pm to 6.30pm) or full days (7.30am - 6.30pm), however fees are payable for additional hours as the ECCE program only covers one, three hour Educare session each day. For full terms and conditions please refer to the Centre’s Parent Handbook.
To apply for a space for your child complete the application form and contact the Centre Manager. Please note once your place at the Centre and commencement date has been confirmed that payment must be arranged in advance from the date of commencement. Unfortunately, due to extensive waiting lists, we are not able to hold your place if you change your mind, without payment to cover the period between your KCCC offered starting date and your actual commencement date. For further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
