Montessori was developed by Italian physician Dr Maria Montessori in 1907 and takes a unique approach to the holistic development of a child through the Montessori method and the play-based curriculum of Aistear. Montessori is part of the free preschool (ECCE) program and typically undertaken the year prior to national school. Parents may choose between Montessori or Educare in this final year before formal schooling begins. To read more about the difference between Montessori and Educare Click Here.

What is the day to day routine in Montessori?

Children in Montessori take part in a structured programme that allows them to direct their own activity using Montessori prescribed materials. Our children enjoy dedicated blocks of "work time" as well as circle time, free play and outdoor activities.

How does the team communicate with parents and guardians?

Our team shares feedback at collection time with parents and guardians who also have the opportunity to view their child's work on the walls inside and outside the Montessori room. Parents and guardians also get to take a complete scrapbook record of their child's work home at the end of the year.

What should I send to Montessori with my child?

  • A change of clothes in case of accidents
  • A small snack, such as half a sandwich or a piece of fruit
  • An scrapbook for your child's artwork

How do I apply for a space?

To learn more about choosing a preschool programme for your child you should first read our section entitled "Montessori or Educare: which preschool program is right for your child?" Click here to read more.

Montessori runs one ECCE morning session between 9am and 12noon each day, and one afternoon ECCE session between 1.30pm and 4.30pm each day of the week during school terms. There is the option for your child to enrol in a half day (morning session 7.30am - 1.30pm OR afternoon session 1.30pm to 6.30pm) or full days (7.30am - 6.30pm), however fees are payable for additional hours as the ECCE programme only covers one three hour Montessori session each day. For full terms and conditions please refer to the Centre’s Parent Handbook.

To apply for a space for your child complete the application form and contact the Centre Manager. Please note once your place at the Centre and commencement date has been confirmed that payment must be arranged in advance from the date of commencement. Unfortunately, due to extensive waiting lists, we are not able to hold your place if you change your mind, without payment to cover the period between your KCCC offered starting date and your actual commencement date. For further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
