After School

Junior After School

AGE GROUP:  4 - 7 years
RATIO: 1:10
LOCATION: Second Floor, KCCC
ROOM LEADER: Jo Hotchkiss

Junior After School offers a relaxed environment for 4 to 7 year olds. We aim to  create an environment of trust and fun that enables our children's true personalities to shine, allowing them to choose and enjoy the activities they like most. Children in Junior After School are collected from St Joseph's National School at 2.50pm and return to the KCCC for a hot dinner prepared by the KCCC's chef. We then focus on homework and once done, our children can enjoy free play or activities including painting, clay play, nature walks, movies on Fridays, and on sunny days fun in the playground adjacent to the school. Children can also choose to take part in extracurricular activities such as hurling, camogie, fitclub, drama, ballet and dance. Children who need a little peace and quiet can retreat to our "chill out" room adjoining the  After School room. At the end of each day upon collection we take time to communicate with parents and guardians about their child's day and raise any concerns we may have.

Parents and guardians please note to label all clothing to ensure that if items go missing we can return them to the correct owner. Please also send your child with a small snack that they can enjoy immediately upon finishing school as children can get hungry in the hour between pick-up and dinner time at 3pm.

Senior After School

LOCATION: Kinvara Community Centre
ROOM LEADER: Dominika Bacikova

Senior After School offers a friendly and fun environment for 6 to 9 year olds. Upon collection of our children from St Joseph's National School and the arrival of children from Educate Together in Kilcolgan, we all enjoy a hot dinner prepared by the KCCC's chef. Children typically do their homework after dinner and then enjoy a range of planned activities and games such as table games, baking and art and craft that are directly connected to the four themes of Aistear. Children can also choose to take part in extracurricular activities such as hurling, camogie, fitclub, drama, ballet and dance. The community hall  is available to us on Fridays for a range of physical activities such as ball games. Upon collection of your child we take time to let you know about your child's day and raise any concerns we may have.

Please be sure to label all clothing so we can return missing items to their correct owner. Please also send your child with a small snack that they can enjoy immediately upon finishing school as children can get hungry in the hour between pick-up and dinner time at 3pm.

After School (National School)

AGE GROUP: 6 - 12 years
RATIO: 1:10
LOCATION: St Joseph’s National School
GROUP LEADER: Verisima Fernandez

After School (National School) offers an excellent environment that is conducive to both study and play. Children are supported with their homework and once done have the opportunity to enjoy free play such as outdoor sports, arts and crafts or indoor games, or planned activities including hurling and Fitclub. Our After School children can take full advantage of St Joseph’s fantastic facilities including astro turf, a basketball court, a tennis court and an indoor hall/gym.

This Afterschool program does not provide a hot meal so it is important parents and guardians send their children with appropriate snacks.

It is also very important that parents and guardians communicate their child's absences.

How do I apply for a space?

To apply for a space for your child please email the Centre Manager advising of your child's name, age, current school (St Joseph's National School or Educate Together Kilcolgan) and year level, and the days you would like your child to attend the after school service. Please also advise the Centre Manager of any extracurricular activities that your child plans to attend during their after school session and the Manager will advise whether this can be accommodated.

Please note once your place in the After School program and commencement date has been confirmed that payment must be arranged in advance from the date of commencement. Unfortunately, due to extensive waiting lists, we are not able to hold your place if you change your mind, without payment to cover the period between your KCCC offered starting date and your actual commencement date. For full terms and conditions please refer to the Centre's Handbook, or contact us.
